First, locate your property on the Floodplain Map and determine whether you are within the AE (100-Year) Floodplain. If so, you must have flood insurance if you have a mortgage. The City’s floodplain regulations are included in Chapter 7-315 of the Zoning Code.
Any new construction on properties in the floodplain will require review by the Floodplain Administrator to determine if it constitutes a “substantial improvement” as outlined in the Floodplain Ordinance; if so mitigation methods are required.
Any new construction that sits in the floodplain, such as signs, fences, or new additions, requires that a Floodplain Development Permit application be filed and approved by the Floodplain Administrator.
